Fabulous vintage 1950s-era tartan plaid metal bread box in exceptionally nice condition for its age. This large hinged bread keeper features a striking red, deep green, black and golden-yellow tartan/plaid lithographed exterior with a coordinating warm yellow interior. A circular arrangement of original ventilation holes at the back provides airflow—the classic design of a mid-century bread keeper. What really sets this one apart is its condition. The plaid remains remarkably bright and crisp, the box retains its shape beautifully, the hinged lid operates properly, and the interior is unusually clean for a vintage metal bread box of this age. There is only light age-related wear, including small areas of finish loss consistent with vintage use. Please review photos closely as they are part of the condition description. The bold tartan pattern makes this much more than kitchen storage. It would be wonderful displayed in a vintage kitchen, cottage, farmhouse, cabin or traditional Christmas kitchen, and it offers concealed storage while looking fantastic on a counter or shelf. Approximate era: 1950s–early 1960s Material: Lithographed/painted metal Color: Red, green, black & golden yellow plaid with yellow interior Style: Mid-Century / Retro / Tartan Measurements 14.5” wide × 10” deep × 7 5/8” high A particularly attractive example of mid-century kitchenware with wonderful color and graphic appeal—and increasingly difficult to find this clean.
