Beautiful carving set in original box. Vintage Griffon carving sets featuring bone or stag handles with silver accents are highly collectible mid-century kitchenware, typically dating from the early 20th century through the 1960s. Griffon Cutlery Works (later Griffon Cutlery Corp.) was founded in 1888 and produced many of these sets in Germany and Sheffield, England Common Styles & Materials Handle Materials: While some sets feature genuine bone or stag horn (antler), others use French ivory (an early celluloid faux ivory) or mother-of-pearl. Silver Details: Vintage sets often include silver-plated or sterling silver ferrules (the metal band between the handle and blade) and end caps. Some ornate German-made sets feature etched patterns like pheasants or grapes directly on the silver-plated handles. Blades: Most sets utilize Stainless Razor Steel or Hollow Ground blades.
