This style of swung glass vase was popular in American glassmaking during the mid-20th century, particularly from the 1960s through the 1980s. Companies like Kanawha Glass, L.E. Smith, and other West Virginia glass manufacturers produced these decorative pieces using a technique where molten glass was literally swung back and forth to create the elongated, graceful form. The amberina coloring, transitioning from deep red to amber tones, was achieved through heat-sensitive glass formulas containing gold. These swung vases are highly valued by collectors of American art glass and mid-century decorative arts. The vibrant colors, elegant forms, and nostalgic appeal make them popular among vintage glass enthusiasts and interior decorators seeking statement pieces. Such vases are particularly appreciated for their handcrafted quality and the skill required to create their distinctive stretched shapes and ruffled edges.
