Art Deco 89 Vintage Semaphore Design Red/Black and Crystal Earrings. The earrings are a notable example of Art Deco 89 jewelry, specifically a Semaphore design. This short-lived company operated for only one year in 1989 and was founded by Larry Joseph, the former owner of the Hattie Carnegie Company. Design and History The Mark: This brand is known for high-end Art Deco revival costume jewelry that recreates famous designs from the 1920s and 1930s. Semaphore Design: Your earrings appear to be a reproduction of the Semaphore jewelry originally designed by Gerard Sandoz circa 1928. While the originals were crafted from precious materials like gray gold, coral, and onyx, the Art Deco 89 versions use silver-plated metal, molded resin (often in red-orange and black), and rhinestones. Rarity: Because the company only produced jewelry for a single year, these pieces are considered relatively rare and have become highly collectible. In very good vintage condition.
